Today i’m reviewing Legend Undone by Angie Day.
Angie found her love of writing while in college where she studied psychology and eventually went on to a master’s degree. The Legends & Shadows Saga is her debut series.
I came across her novels on a tour and I was enchanted right away with her world, they left me asking what if humans did actually a form of transcend or better ourselves will we take the chance?
First Impressions
In the beginning something that actually interest me was the cover it drawn my attention super fast and then the premise was so alluring I just knew I needed it in my life right away, the thought of super humans trying to live a normal life was compelling and made the journey throughout the book it took me from a lot range of emotions since page one, that says a lot of this book, since you can feel so many things every time you read a chapter.
It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, however it was a very interesting story taking in account the best and worst of humanity and woven nicely in a good narrative, it did surprise me how much I got into the problems and the tug war between the characters later on.
Characters
Let’s talk about the characters:
So Mara our protagonist is a very troubled girl and super complex in a lot of ways, now with how the situation uncover itself around her and a great portion of her past well hidden somewhere in her mind by force, I can’t blame her for how she actually reacted and took her life in her own hands and try to discover the truth by herself.
Kylan, our own kind of hero in a way, he came as a new breath of air in the life of Mara, he is a very bright character with a portion of darkness out of sight that will reel you in and want to know much more about his story and definitely a strong addition on Mara’s self discovery journey.
And finally Alec is our bad guy with good intentions, or that’s what he want us to believe, he is our very manipulative and rather rotten leader of the Shadows, he will stop at nothing to get to his goal and obtain what he desires most.
Themes
The book center on the plot of human experimentation, this one left me entertaining a lot of possibilities for human beings, it was an interesting source of inspiration and given the opportunity it makes me think if something like this actually could exists will we be aware of it, or maybe we couldn’t even comprehend it and write it as just an urban legend?
Other theme strong on this one is the greed we humans no matter the form we take will always possess, we always want more of everything and sometimes this greed lures us to very dark places and we even rationalize the need of it in any actions we take, in Alec this was particularly true since as the more you read the more compelling this greed is.
Final Thoughts
So overall I really liked this book, it was enthralling and it keep you on the edge at every page, the characters were so human and fascinating that you begin to try to see if maybe anyone at all could actually be a legend and you just didn’t notice.
Totally recommended to fantasy lovers and even if you just want to read something different and unwind, this is absolutely for you.
This book will give you a ride through the best and worst of us as humans, and it will captivate you with it’s charming narrative and strong emotion connection.
