Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic.
Review
This one I picked it up at last for a joint review with my friends this month.
At the beginning:
At first I will be super honest, I hated Scarlett and Julian so much and Tella much more, but going forward with the story it began warping into something more catching and enticing, much like Caraval and his games.
A thing that I liked is how the characters began to grow on you, and all the twisting on the events and the misunderstandings that come with them.
Something I liked a lot:
The idea of a magic event like that it’s absolutely delicious and I can see how Scarlett would feel so drawn to it in the first place after all the stories from her nanna.
The scenery depicted was so cute and mesmerizing I sometimes got lost myself in this world every so often.
Definitely worth to pick up and lost yourself in its world.
