Interview: Holly Tierney-Bedord

Tell us a little about yourself and your background?
I work for a non-profit in Madison, Wisconsin.
Which writers inspire you?
So many! Everyone from Mark Twain to Sylvia Plath to Stephen King and many, many more.
Have you written any other novels in collaboration with other writers?
Not yet.
When did you decide to become a writer?
As soon as I learned to write. In first or second grade I used to write Pippi Longstocking sequels after I’d read all the real versions. Those were the first books I wrote. I wish I still had them!
Do you write full-time or part-time?
Part-time.
Do you work to an outline or plot or do you prefer just see where an idea takes you?
I don’t start with an outline. I start with an idea for a story and then partway into the story I usually map out a plan of what has happened and what still needs to happen.
Do you have a strategy for finding reviewers?
Mainly just googling things like “Who wants to review my book.”
What are your thoughts on good/bad reviews?
Writers want people to like their work, of course, but I’m part of the club that thinks any review is better than no review, and that some bad reviews (if they’re real reviews from people who actually read the book) aren’t the end of the world. Also, sometimes reviewers have valuable insights that can help improve future books.
